  Calling All Liberals!

Calling all liberals! I feel like I really need to understand some things about your system of beliefs. Feel free to write me, to answer any of the following questions, because I can’t come up with any conceivable answers myself.

What is the deal with Eleanor Clift? Does this woman ever have anything positive to say about anything that is positive? Why is she so cranky all the time? Will she ever admit she’s wrong? Why is it that when Bill Clinton committed his foul and lascivious acts, it was okay, that "all presidents do it," but when W mangles a syllable or two, it's "Armageddon"? Do John McLaughlin and Fox News just put her on TV to be a human punching bag? Will she ever change her attitude in spite of the fact that she’s been so wrong for so long? She only seems to get increasingly bitter over the years because of her chronic wrongness.

Why are the Democrats so strongly blocking the nomination of Miguel Estrada? Don’t they know that he’s Hispanic? I thought Democrats were all about supporting minorities. Hispanics are still considered minorities, right? I don’t even know. I find the whole term “minority” repugnant anyway. We’re all in this together, I thought. What did Mr. Estrada do that would warrant a fillibuster blockade? He worked in Clinton’s administration, for crying out loud. I thought Democrats thought Clinton was an okay guy. Explain!

Explain to me how if liberals and Democrats think that they are so smart and so well-read, that they don’t look at history, or know how to analyze a political situation and see beyond the emotional reaction to it. That Kuchinich -- or however you spell it -- guy in Ohio is the latest example, by saying war=bad because people die. That’s a very good observation that any 3-year-old could make, but gee, maybe if a war is planned well, and ends up liberating an entire culture maybe war=good. Maybe France=bad because they’ve been doing business with bad people for many, many years. Why do all Democrats talk to us like 3-year-olds? Do Teddy Kennedy and Hillary and Kerry really think they’re that much smarter than us? If they really think their educations make them worshippable people, then they should worship president George W. Bush. He’s got a degree from Yale and an MBA from Harvard.

What is up with Molly Ivins? Why do people read her columns? She thinks she’s Mark Twain but she comes across like Oscar the Grouch. She’s what Muriel Spark would call a “pisseur de copie.” I think it’s some of the worst-written drivel I’ve ever read in a nationally- published medium. Did she ever take a single economics class wherever she went to school? Who is perpetuating her career when all she does is make these ingenuous “homespun” generalizations that have no basis in fact? Why does her syndicate let her make stuff up and pass it off as fact? I thought there were ethics you had to follow in journalism, even in editorializing. She’s creative, all right. The way Piet Mondrian could so creatively paint a red rectangle. She’s a polecat trying to do possum’s job an’ she was left out too long in the sun t’dry!

If Democrats consider themselves such strident humanitarians – Jimmy Carter in particular prides himself on placing high value on human life – why did they think that liberating Iraq was such a lousy idea? I don’t know what the final numbers are on civilian Iraqi casualties, but when we do get the final numbers, let’s keep in mind that there are over 24 million people in Iraq. Twenty-four million! One percent of that number of coalition soldiers are waltzing in practically unopposed! There must’ve been some desire, some yearning, from the Iraqi people themselves to be liberated from Saddam Hussein! I’m willing to bet more people die on the highways in one year in the U.S. than coalition soldiers and Iraqi civilains die in one year of this conflict. How un-humanitarian is it when Jimmy Carter advocates against freeing an oppressed people from a fate worse than death? The paradox is so confounding it makes my head hurt. Jimmy, why don’t you abolish the automobile if you really care that much?
