Voices of the People "Why are the Democrats so strongly blocking the nomination of Miguel Estrada? Don’t they know that he’s Hispanic? I thought Democrats were all about supporting minorities. " Well, my dear, we don't just vote blindly because a person happens to be a "minority." It is what's upstairs that matters. But most repubs seem to be voting because .... well I guess they like the appearance of "dignity" and "morals" in the white house. I say, friends don't let their friends vote republican. Ever. Repubs are never for helping anyone but the well to do. Say, how much was your "tax cut" ??? By the way, just what do you think the word "liberal" means? I believe it stands for social justice. Aimee W. Once again, my questions fail to yield an answer. I am yet to see any evidence that Miguel Estrada is an unfit appointee. No one -- not the senators, the newspapers, O'Reilly, my liberal friends -- has been able to offer me a valid reason why his nomination is being blocked. Did he cut deals for Enron? Did he cheat on his wife? Does he wear SpongeBob underwear? You can't just block a guy because you "feel like it." That doesn't go over well with voters. The term "liberal" in the modern sense originated from 18th century France. The peasantry were being taxed to the limit by working harder, and the nobility were only getting lazier and richer. So a few folks in the elite educated class -- guys like Rousseau -- advocated a more egalitarian, or "liberal" social makeup. The irony is that that elite class was made up of depraved philanderers and the peasantry, after the revolution of 1783, ended up cutting off more heads than the nobility did. Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, what emerged from the American Revolution was an extremely democratic and expedient middle class bent on fostering equal opportunity. What emerged in France was an amoral class of bureaucrats bent on enforcing socialistic mediocrity. That's why I think liberalism is a crock of poop. If you really want to split hairs, the term "liberal" was used in the time of the ancients. Maybe then as in early 18th century France it meant social justice. Now it means "social insult."
I agree with one thing you said. You are an ignorant Republican. Sniff, sniff. Charles S.
Liberal brainwashing. What a joke. If were educated ( and I sincerely doubt you are ) then you would know that there is no such thing as a Perspective-less perspective. Everyone could be labeled 'brainwashed'. You look foolish and un-eduacted (sic) when you blurt out silly remarks like that. Hawaii M.
hello. i was doing a class project on charles schulz and i found your page. i read it. and sadly i disagree. you sound like a bitter bitter old person who needs to lighten up. i admit. im young. ive only in highschool. but really. charles schultz was a legend and will always be remember for his fantastic cartoons, who reached so many people. i seriously hope you find somehting that you love to do and be lucky enough to do it your entire life. he was. Linda Linda, Thanks so much for writing. At the time I wrote the article, I was still trying to get my comics syndicated, and I probably was a little frustrated. I think the point I was trying to make --which I still hold to -- is that something happened to Charles Schulz as reflected in the content of his cartoons. If you read his strips from the 50s and 60s, they don't have the same meaning they did in the 80s and 90s. His characters are still very lovable and timeless. I have kept much of my Peanuts merchandise that my parents gave me 30 years ago. I'll always hold dear those toys and the Peanuts TV specials. Thanks again for writing, and good luck in your endeavors.
just visited your selfserving editorial about dem. making you ill,in my opinion you are always ill,i vote republican and its your kind of b.s. that turns off voters in this country. In your sick mind i am sure you wont admit that both political parties have there share of numbsculls (sic) but i am beginning to think this once great party has more like you than like sen Jeffords who refused to become a rubber stamp like the rest are becoming. LM19461947 LM19461947 (If that is your real name!): the whole point of my editorial was that i was previously turned off to voting because i felt that all politicians were the same but now i'm not turned off because it's plain to see which party lacks insight moral uprightness direction and professionalism not sure why my editorial would turn voters off when i outlined reasons to vote for someone. and yes i know there's clowns and numbskulls on both sides but point 7 clearly states that republicans atone for their sins when the dems don't. if you had done your research you'd know that jeffords has zero political clout because he's a pariah to both parties lotta good he's doing being the maverick--talk about self-serving. thanks for your input feel free to check out the cartoons as well.
I teach US History and cover current politics in Washington and the rest of the country. I am building a web site, and am trying to find sources from the left and right sides of the political spectrum in order to present different voices for the kids to consider. It would be easier to just present what most of the kids think, but since I teach debate, it is important for kids to understand both sides of an issue so that they can better support their personal beliefs. It is easy to find plenty of left and moderate political cartoons on the web, that express elements of the issue. But as far as I can tell, after hours of searching the web, the right does not offer very much on the web in the political cartoon category. Either: 1. Conservatives don't use the web 2. Conservatives don't like or draw political cartoons 3. Conservatives don't know how to use Flash to create quality animations that kids will watch. I am not sure what is true about the entire web, but I sure that your offerings confirm #3. I wish you could do better. Eliott R. I appreciate your input. Having been a former member of the Amercian Association of Editorial Cartoonists, and a former professional cartoonist for the Dallas Morning News, I can tell you what the problem is. 1. Most of the current visible professional cartoonists today are left-leaning, because the editors and publishers for most of the major metro dailies are left-leaning. They are either going to hire -- or, as is the case now, publish from syndicated material -- left-leaning cartoonists. And because of the high demand for cheaper syndicated material, a conservative cartoonist (whether he's a Flash cartoonist or not) doesn't have much of a chance to profit from his abilities, much less his opinions. 2. Therefore, a conservative cartoonist is going to have a harder time "experimenting" in other media. Since Garry Trudeau is a) syndicated and b) liberal, he can turn his profits from the newspaper syndicates into other media explorations such as Flash, and even hire a team of Flash animators if he so chose. In fact, Trudeau doesn't even draw his own strip. Why he hasn't fallen from the market due to lack of respect from viewers after all this time, I've never been able to figure out. 3. Answer two explains a lot as to why you think my work is poor in quality. I work a full time day job, Mr. R., so I do everything for the site in my off-hours (or did, I'm semi -retired from the cartoons). I provide the research, the development, the art work, the scanning, the optimzing, the voices, the animation, the search engine registration, everything. My wife is my editor. Given the timeliness and transitory nature of political events, I gotta get this stuff out in a hurry. I don't have the luxury of a studio in southern California to ship my ideas off to. I've got an upgraded version of Flash MX in the wings, but I have to update my O/S before I can even start publishing again, after which time I may begin submitting my work to evote.com again, the only conservative outlet other than Rush Limbaugh I've been able to find. Otherwise, if you can find someone who can turn consevative Flash animation into profit while improving the quality of my ideas, I'd appreciate the input. Regards, H
