What is "Editoriality" (a.k.a. "In a Nutshell")/Drake & Della Productions?

H. L. Demond

Henry Louis Demond was born in Fort Worth in a year journalists call "The Year That Cracked." Despite a childhood accident involving a gas heater and India ink, H.L. managed to graduate high school, hold down a few random jobs and earn an English degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Since then, he has drawn and written for such publications as Cracked Magazine, UT's Daily Texan, the Austin American-Statesman, the Arlington Morning News, and evote.com. But he is most proud of having drawn for Dallas' Wahoo Reader. H. L.'s hobbies include gardening, collecting rare books, and attending the Fort Worth Symphony. He works as a creative professional in a number of areas. Feel free to visit his Web site.

In 1994, H. L. received the Southwestern Journalism Congress award for editorial cartooning.

Believe it or not, H. L. provides the content, writing, art, and voices for the animations, and he also provides the web design and development for the site. Creative compadre Mike Bain takes credit for assistance on several of the parody songs, 2000-2002. And credit goes to Patrick Biediger Jr., Jorge Arbelaez, and Brett Moneta for recent broadcasts.

"Pandora's Box!" was created and developed 1991-94 and ran periodically in the Daily Texan 1994-95. Over 500 of these little Gary Larson- and O. Henry Pun-Off-influenced panels were created without much fanfare, so here's just as good a place as any to showcase them.

The site was formerly called "In a Nutshell" and "mortandmindy.com" in deference to Mort the Squirrel and Mindy Mineshaft, the main characters in H. L.'s cartoon strip for the Arlington Morning News. (1996-99)

Lesley Hensell

Lesley Hensell, according to her brother Aaron, was won on a game show. Luckily for her family and a handful of Dallas PR firms, she ended up in Texas. After recovering from a nasty bout of watergatia nervosa, she mastered the violin and earned a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. She has written for publications such as UT's Daily Texan, realtytimes.com, the Dallas Business Journal, and the Dallas Morning News. She supplies an occasional voice in the semi-ani-auto-manics. She takes pride in her plants and her ability to predict political catastrophes before they happen.

H. L. and Lesley have been married since 1995 and are ultimately responsible for Drake & Della Productions (Called "Drake & Zeenie Productions" for awhile in honor of H. L.'s favorite kitty). They live in a town called Mansfield (also known as "Extremeweatherville"), about 15 miles southeast of Fort Worth.
